It all began as a solo act in 2022 by Nora Madonna Montano as Firebird, playing acoustic songs with a heavy emphasis on punk rhythm and lyricism. Following demand to hear Firebird songs with the full sound of a band behind them, Nora sought out other likeminded musicians to play drums, keys, and bass. Late in the year, and within a few short months, a ragtag nucleus of friends came together: Nora Madonna on guitar and vocals, Jenn Joyce on the drums, Hannah Sutter on vocals, Shoshana Shangold on keyboards, and Mark Nava on bass.
The vision of a unique synthesis in music between classic rock, groovy rhythms, hard driving beats, quirky indie sensibilities, pop-y Cars-like synth lines, and feel-good lyrics about life at the end of the world, all suddenly and quickly came into fruition, and the dimensions of Firebird FM began to take shape. Beyond the real life, live performance band, there is exists simultaneously, references to an otherworldly radio station, somewhere in the multiverse. "You are listening to Firebird FM, 98.6 this is the LIFE . . ." The listener is prompted to believe in the existence of another world, where radio rock hits still rule the jungle, and music is once again a source of vitality to the human soul.
"That's Firebird FM, radio waves from the astral plane, anthem rock hits right here at your fingertips, babies. Keep it on the dial, right now we got another 30 minutes of non-stop music coming at you . . . "
